Bulgarije is lid van de EU
Sinds 2007 is Bulgarije lid van de Europese Unie. Met de auto kun je vanaf Nederland zonder grenscontroles naar Bulgarije rijden. Met het vliegtuig is het slechts 3 uur vliegen van A'dam naar Sofia. Ook kunt u vliegen op Varna of Boekarest.
Per 2026 krijgt Bulgarije de EURO
Vanaf 1 januari 2026 wordt de LEV ingeruild voor de Euro. De LEV was al lange tijd gekoppeld aan de Euro en dus had de overheid al geen monetaire controle meer over de munt. Voor Bulgaren is de overgang vrij eenvoudig: 100 LEV = 50 Euro.
Bulgarije is lid van Schengen
Bulgarije is sinds 2024 een Schengenland. Schengen betekend een zone zonder interne grenscontroles en daarmee vrijheid van personen en goederen tussen andere Schengenlanden. Er zijn dus geen grenscontroles meer.
